We’re very excited about sharing with you the things we do by volunteering our time at Safe Haven Llama and Alpaca Sanctuary and Rescue.

     Our organization is 100% volunteer operated, 100% supported through donations and product sales, and all 100% of your charitable contributions supports the well-being of our alpacas and llamas. We thank all of you so very much for your help and support.

ADOPTIONS

     We are so pleased that one of our girls, “Darby”, and one of our boys, Sonny GO  Lucky” were adopted in March, by Gary Lanser of Hamilton. Gary is new to the area and had purchased some adorable pet goats that needed a guardian llama to protect them and be a companion to them. He made several visits to Safe Haven asking questions, getting to know some chosen ones for the task and getting to handle them. After the second visit and choosing the two, the llamas seemed to know that he was for them as they got along so well. On the fourth visit he brought his trailer and they headed to their new home on the west side.
Sharon and Char paid him a visit after a week or so and his set up is almost perfect. He had new fencing and shelter and the BIG PLUS was he could watch them and the goats from his front windows at all times.

Our Critters

We have had quite a different winter and spring.  In January our little Noah was a very sick little guy. He was not getting much milk from mom so he would try to supplement himself with hay. He couldn’t go potty, we tried some things and waited for Dr. Rollette to come.  He put some fluids in him, give him a shot and checked his totally empty little bowels.  Then it was Char’s turn to bottle feed him. He didn’t like that, however, Noah is now doing well, as cute as ever and such a little family boy, very protected by his sister and Nan.

It has been a tough winter for our alpaca “Allende”. He is around 18 yrs old now and has no teeth. So we have to feed him mush with supplements and electrolytes. Poor guy is still skin and bones so we do not shear him or he will get too cold. We always see hay wods in the feeders as the poor guy can only suck on the hay and get the juices from it. Allende needs a sponsor to help us to have the feed we need to care for him as well as his medical needs when needed.

    Our 32 year old Bucky Blue is starting to show his age. All he wants to do is EAT! EAT! and EAT some more.  He only has 3 front teeth left but can still chew on his back ones. We hope he will be  with us for a couple of more years anyway and will do whatever it takes for him to stay with us.

Peekk-A-Boo, Cranial Sacral

Our dear older girl. We had a bad blizzard towards the end of April and somehow Peeka went down. Luckily she is in the barn, but the sunshine would be good for her. She couldn’t get up no matter how hard she tried and even with the girls and I helping her and holding her up. SO I give Jody Mohoff, my cranial sacral gal a call. Jody worked on Peek-a for an hour and we watched as she made all kinds of movement in the face. After Jody left I checked on her again and made sure she had food and was settled in for the night. She had been trying to get up and has continued to do so for the past week now. I continue to do the rocking motion along her spine each day and several times as I know it helps. After eight days, Peek-a is starting to get very frustrated cause she tries so hard, but I know it will come cause I have seen it take 2 weeks. W e  will put her on some homeopathics and that should help her also.
